My name is Petya and this place has been my true love since January of 2002 when I thought that I wanted to illustrate children's books for a living. I used to draw little girls with BIG heads. Hence the name of the site.
Since its very inception, the website has been hosted by, Dan of waferbaby.com. Dan is single-handedly responsible for my addiction to all things blog. It all started when he made the seemingly innocent suggestion that if I want to have a website, I might want to learn a little bit of html. And for that, I will love him forever.
After a seven-year whirlwind of adventures in the United States, I moved back to Bulgaria where I now live with my wonderful husband. If you ever see a spastic Bulgarian girl and a skinny American boy taking jumping pictures of each other you should know it's probably the two of us and should definitely come by and say hi.

Chances are, it's an anxiety disorder, also called a panic attack. This sounds strange, since you're probably not panicking about anything, but your body is producing a cocktail of hormones that makes your heart feel like it's going thumpity-thump when it's really just performing normally. Go see a doctor, because you don't want to mess around with your vital organs. Drugs are not necessary, unless it's interfering with your life. Regular exercise, balanced diet, relaxation, and refraining from caffeine and alcohol will help you to feel normal. I suffer from this, too, but I can't give up the caffeine and alcohol. The icon of Sveta Petya always speaks to me. Maybe she'll speak to you, too, since you carry her name.
Anxiety: check. Panic: check. Can't give up caffeine or alcohol. Don't exercise either. I guess I'll just need to chill. Thanks for your note, whoever you are. :)

Been there, done that: get yourself to a doctor. It doesn't get better by ignoring it, and if you are stressed by it now, it gets worse. I was sort of in the same situation as you once: doing my graduate degree in a strange country in a foreign language, and had some problems dealing with it (and I didn't have the internet to help, let alone a telephone at the time!).
My doctor gave me valium, which helped enormously. I'm not sure if I would have been able to finish the degree otherwise.
And get into exercise, it really does help. Penn State is fantastic countryside for bicycling and you need to have an outlet for your frustrations.
Your body is telling you that you need to pay attention to what is going on with you: don't ignore it.
