That's it. I'm going to see about using some frequent flyer miles to get to Sofia - after the snow is gone.

Oh, yeah? Let's coordinate! Nothing like late spring in Sofia.
Late spring is what I'm thinkin'. Here are my huge, huge ambitions for a visit to Sofia: to mosey -- yes! mosey is the word -- around the streets, remembering which street names go to which physical street (I've been having trouble with this lately), stopping for slow coffees here and there,or the occasional Zagorka. Go for a swim at Spartak. Maybe run into an acquaintance or two (I still owe a Mtel engineer lunch from 4 years ago).See if the women still look you square in the eyes when they speak to you.

Don't know about the rest, but as far as women are concerned...they still do (look you square in the eyes). So do the men. Alas.
Oh, and I want to ride the tram. I never did it before.

Whatever rocks your boat. Just promise to watch your wallet. ;)
Yep, I've heard stories about the trams. Maybe I should be most worried about the "conductors"? Should be exciting!

Seriously, though, let me know if you end up going!
Yes I will.

Chatty taxi drivers... Yeah - we had our share of those on our visit to Sofia last fall. Our friend doesn't drive, so she takes a lot of taxis.
One of the most entertaining took us to the Palace of Culture for a concert. He had to practice the English he learned off the radio in the cab, which pretty much consisted solely of "I slept like a log!" Well, that and the dirty jokes he kept telling our friend in Bulgarian. She, of course, was then obliged to translate them to English for us.
We also learned that it's best, when in a taxi or pretty much any moving vehicle in Bulgaria, to keeps one's eyes closed. Particularly on left turns.
We had a lovely visit. I hope we can go back again someday soon.
Sofia is cool. You should also go to the "summer theater" where some hippies still get together and play tamborines or play with fire.
i am not sure i know exactly what place you are referring to. but ANY place that involves people playing with fire sounds great to me.
