Hot hot hot

I'm sweating my butt off. And, honestly, have no idea what to wear so that I don't feel drops of sweat run down my legs. That kind of thing is only appropriate under very special circumstances, if you know what I mean.

How do you keep yourselves cool? What do you eat, drink, wear? Any advice is more than welcome.

Wear loose, light, and light-colored clothing. Keep the sun off your head. Maybe you can keep cool and make a fashion statement by walking around with a parasol (I'm not so sure this is a good idea). The experts dress like this:

But their women dress like this (not recommended):

Here in Florida, we mainly handle the heat by buying oil from those people and using it to power our air conditioners.

But besides that, showers are helpful, as is eating light (seems like tarator would be good, and come to think of it, I should get a recipe - got one?).

Maybe spend some time at the new shopping mall if it's air conditioned, or make a visit to Vitosha.

But if you're at home, trying to get to sleep in the heat, that's a tough one.

Good Luck!

sonyphone, thank you! tarator does seem to help. as far as the recipe goes, here's how i make it:

1/2 plain yogurt, 1/2 water.Add cucumbers, fresh dill, fresh garlic, walnuts, and salt. You can add some olive oil too. I am not quite sure about the exact proportions of this all, but you've had it once so you should be able to make it taste good to you.

Maybe other people could share their recipes. I think that Bulgarians mostly disagree about how much water one is supposed to use...Some people like it a bit thicker.

Z: Thanks for the images. A picture's worth a thousand words, indeed.

Here is my short list of ideas:
1. drink tea. lots of tea.
2. eat mostly veggie stuff and salads
3. wear robes and alike
4. excersise to help your metabolism

And most important: act as a child. you were never sweating when you were couple of years younger, right?

I swim whenever I get the chance. :) Right now, I'm home visiting my parents, and while they're making me so crazy that I can't wait to get back to State College (I KNOW!), I'll miss the breeze we get here in Buffalo. We're right on Lakes Erie and Ontario, as well as the Niagara River, so the air flows so much nicer than it does in the valley.

I second wearing cool, loose clothing. I like sleeveless tops a lot. And sandals. I never wear real shoes if I can avoid it.

As far as recipes, my mother makes this excellent cold chicken salad. De-bone some chicken breasts, chop them into bite-sized pieces or so, and poach them in the juice from a can of mandarin oranges. Put the chicken and oranges into a bowl with some cooked farfalle pasta (the bowtie shaped ones), green grapes sliced in half, and chopped pineapple. Add a little bit of the mandarin orange juice, a little bit of pineapple juice, and some mayonnaise or Miracle Whip to make it stick together a bit. (Not too much, or it's too creamy and gross, but just enough to coat the pasta.) Mix it all together with a wooden spoon, and let it chill. Serve cold with sliced almonds or walnuts. It's delicious.

i think eastern europe is being hit with a heat wave.... here in Vladimir it felt a lot like Florida to me. And as such, i spent the day at work.... because work is airconditioned. And because the internet lives there.

hey there, y'all!!!

thank you so much for the suggestions. i don't know if it's a heat wave or a tsunami of hot stuff...but it seems to be here to stay.

hot tea does seem to work. i've started drinking tea just recently and i'm starting to realize that i've been missing out.

jenn, your mom's salad sounds delicious. i will definitely give it a try. if (believe it or not) i can find mandarin oranges! :D

Wear less clothes! :P
I'm in shorts and that's it.
God I love this weather!
It's hot, brutal really, with relentless sunshine. It's warm by 8am.
So much like home! I hope it stays like this for another month! Or two. Time for Varna.

Jeff, you're officially a Bulgarian now...loving Varna, planning long summer vacations. As much as I complain about the heat, I love it too. Summer is so liberating!

Are you in Sofia? Will call you...err...tomorrow...? :)
