Are you gonna go my way?!
So, I talked to several people in my department, my boss AND the Human Resource executive and my idea has been met with just about the same amount of enthusiasm I exhibit when offered a big fat bloody piece of meat: EEEEEWWWWWWW! When asked why not, people gave me all kinds of unreasonable, totally made-up justifications. Like:
- People on the street would stare.
Dude! We could totally dress up in the bathroom!!!
- That's so childish!
Well...a little bit. But that's A GOOD THING!
- I don't own a costume.
BUT you could make your own!!!
- I have no costume ideas.
That SO stopped being an excuse like 7 or 8 years ago.
- I hate Halloween.
Ah!
The Professor always wondered about my own Halloween aversion. And, quite frankly, my own excuses were never much better than the ones I listed above. But I did dress up a couple of times and actually realized that the whole thing is quite fun.

For example, I once was Lenny Kravitz in his afro days, which are clearly his better days. On that particular day not only did I get a chance to wear a fro, but also made sure my cocktails were strangely colored, watched The Shining and ate an obscene amount of candy. If there's anything wrong with that, well, sue me!
In all seriousness, having already converted to Halloweenism, I still continue to wonder why Bulgarians are so actively against it.

Somewhere I have photos of you as a pregnant witch. That was from my night as Egypt Whore. This year will be the third year of Space Whore (I'd wear that outfit every day, except it's only acceptable on Halloween.) Halloween is totally my favorite holiday.
Oh! I remember both costumes!!!!! And that party at Mark's too. Pictures?
I owe you an email/comments. Will send it today. Promise.
i totally love Halloween! :)
most of my frinds too. but i still haven't decided what will be my costume/make-up for this year.. also, where the party will be. but as i remember how funny it was last year at "Stroeja" (www.stroeja.com), i find it to be really good option for this year too. =]
also, the idea for party/costumes @work is pretty good, i'll try to spread it among my geeky colleagues :D
let's see, something similar happened back in the days.
place: same aulde towne, ze universite, law dept.
time: Oct 31st
I was listed in group 13, where there were 13 boys and 13 girls, 7 of us - born on some 13th (me also).
so, I really thought halloween should be our group's special holiday. I gave everyone a handmade halloween card (well, I did the drwaings) and they were supposed to be kind'a urge, the C'Mon, DO SOMETHING! way...
it didn't work... they were too obsessed wearing their prom night suits (as they were the only ones they had) and evening make-up at 7:30 AM... pretending to be grown up, pretending to be lawyers already...
well, phoock that, I found a way to celebrate and all this turned to be just the next proof in my theory upon "Why lawyers suck".
and as now we have a month with friday 13th and the halloween - yeah, dawg, gimme that lipstick:)
sadly, the pics are all on paper (ahh, the pre-digital days!) and are currently in GA. but if you remind me this time next year, i'll scan 'em and send 'em your way.
I forgot about you going as a pregnant witch to Mark's party, Petya! Heehee. I remember dressing up as a geisha in horrible roommate's kimono (that was during the brief time we were on good terms), and it kept coming undone. Even through my drunken stupor I was mortified! That was a great party, though....Perhaps the best Halloween party I've ever been to.
Like Jane, I prefer Halloween over any other holiday of the year. I mean seriously, can any other holiday beat it, considering that it's...
a) a holiday you spend with friends - not family or an exclusive partner or something
b) you get to eat lots of bite-sized candy of all kinds
c) you get to dress up in a costume d) mischief is everywhere
e)it can be scary, too (though fruitcake at Christmas still makes me shudder - we'll discount that for now)
f) in Eastern Europe it usually makes everyone on the public transport system leave you the f*** alone, if you're celebrating in an all-black costume with pale makeup, and it guarantees you a 1-foot radius no matter what time of the day it is
g) drinking's involved
h)Halloween, with varying degrees of success, reminds people of their pagan heritage, which is usually collectively forgotten
i) who doesn't love cats and witches and pumpkins and vampires and all that jive?
j) haunted houses, or haunted cornfield mazes (Indiana's version)
k) telling ghost stories
l) parties, parties, parties!
m) I'll stop here, because by now I should have convinced you, and if not, you are a sad, sad person.

sorry it's taken me so long to respond!!!!
kiddo: who's organizing the stroeja party? is it happening again this year? are you going?
unIDfied: lipstick?! what lipstick?! we're dressing up this year, promise!!!
jane: take pictures of the Egypt Whore outfit and post them to your blog. that would totally hike up your site-hits. ;)
brooke: picture horrible roommate in haunted cornfield maze, wine-glass in one hand, cigarette in another! i would so love to see her get lost in the corn!!! or is that too mean?!
petya, it wasn't organized party at stroeja last year. i just went there with couple of friends of mine to celebrate Halloween, because i find the place suitable for such activities. =]
the good part was that quite a lot other people was there with the same idea. ;]
i'm not informed if there will be something organized @stroeja this year, but i plan to be there on Halloween either way. =]
petya, let's go for The Golden Age of Grotesque (which has never ended here, apparently)... and when it comes to absurd and grotesque - there are no better than us in creating a soul mayhem, value apocalypses and virtue lynches:D
"soul mayhem, value apocalypses and virtue lynches" is a lot more than i am willing to sing-up for. but i have no qualms supporting other people's bad habbits. so, i'm sure we can work something out. :P
