Drink-and-blog

The pace of my social life has picked up yet again in the last couple of weeks. There were birthday parties (Number 1 and Number 2), dinners, unmentioned bar-hops and the like. What has not always been made explicit but has hardly gone unnoticed is my tendency to drink-and-blog. A scary thing, when you think about it. Especially if, like me, you have a hard time keeping your mouth shut to begin with.

It's OK, I told myself. I will simply go back and delete all drunk posts so far. Or, I will rephrase things to make me seem less like a vodka-maniac. Because, you see, I am really not THAT much into drinking. I mean, I don't drink THAT often. I simply happen to enjoy talking about it. Then, again, I AM my mother's daughter, who, upon finding out that Prof. Grady was vegetarian hurried to ask: Oh my! But he does drink alcohol, right?!!?!!!

So, to make the long story short, I have decided to keep all the drunk posts intact. Also, rather than be embarrassed about them, I have decided to celebrate various drunk practices by asking you to tell your funniest drunk stories. No sex and violence please. Just some good ole public humiliation, if possible.

For inspiration, I am leaving you with a photo of my dear friend Vladi who, not unlike yours truly, is a drink-and-call kind of girl.

Two weeks in a row, the two of us go out, drink up, and call Mar to tell him that:

There are only two things that should never be mixed with drinking: driving and hunting. All else is fair game ;)

I found your blog, ironically, while Google-ing “Survivor BG.” On my last trip to Sofia, it was all over billboards and on the radio during my numerous cab rides….so naturally I had to find out what this show was all about! An hour later, I am still reading your blog -- you are so funny and insightful and I can relate to a lot, being a BG girl living in the US. And…reading about eating princesi with your taxi driver made me really home sick even though I was there 2 weeks ago!
Eva (but most Bulgarians spell it with an “I”)

Oh, Eva! Thank you so much for your comment! You have no idea how much it means to me!

When I lived in the States, I loved reading Bulgarian blogs simply to get a sense of what living here is like. I never followed major news-sites. I cared about regular folk like me, going about their everyday business, skipping breakfast, getting their nails done, seeing pseudo-famous people on the street. I used to miss it so much, no matter how often I came home to visit.

Knowing that my silly little blog has brought a piece of home to you brought tears to my eyes. Thank you, thank you. Stay in touch!

Fair 'nuff. A friend at work told me that he spent an hour reading my old entries trying to figure out which ones were posted while drunk...I might need to do the same with yours!
