The morning walk mix

Here's my 'Morning Walk Mix' this week and the reasons why each song is on the list:

1. Bob Dylan: Don't think twice, it's all right
Because it used to make me cry but it doesn't anymore. It reminds me that bad times are followed by good times. And good times are followed by even better times.

2. Busta Rhymes and the Ying Yang Twins: Wait [The Whisper Song] Remix
Because it is terribly sexist and I love it anyway. Oh my god! It's so embarrassing to admit I love this song!

3. Coldplay ft. Richard Ashcroft: Bittersweet Symphony [live at Live8]
Because, like the Coldplay dude says, this is probably one of the best songs ever written.

4. David Bowie: Changes
Because it makes me feel like I'm the star of a 70's sitcom and I should be wearing bell-bottoms. Dude! Totally!

5. Duran Duran: Hungry Like the Wolf
Because I was too young to fully appreciate them when they were actually popular and only now am I starting to realize how much I've missed out.

6. Frou Frou: Must be dreaming
Loving this song for the same reason people love every Frou Frou song: the sexy female vocals

7. Lisa Loeb: Stay
Because Lisa is as cute as a button. I still get confused by the way she pronounces 'naive' though. Explain, someone...? Please?

8. The Magnetic Fields: I can't touch you anymore
Because with the right amount of alcohol, any Magnetic Fields song sounds autobiographical.

9. Matchbox Twenty: Unwell
God knows I have no idea why I like this song. Most of the time, I actually don't.

10. Oasis: Wonderwall
Because I've always been a not-so-secret Oasis fan. Brows and vandalism and all.

11. Sonic Youth: Renegade Princess
Because...HAVE YOU NOT HEARD THE SONG?!

12. Ani diFranco: Wishin' and Hopin'
Because it is sweet and romantic. And what could beat that?!

What are YOU listening to these days, that you find especially appropriate for YOUR morning walk to work? Give me more than just titles. Give me REASONS!!!

I have Erlend Oye's DJ Kicks, some Air, Gorrilaz, Morandi (which I am ashamed of, but it's just one song, so it's forgiven), good old Thievery and Deep Dish. :) Best song to start the day is Poor Leno in Erlend's DJ Kicks... :D Give it a try and let me know what you think! :D Love ya!

These days it's pretty much all Jack all the time (Jack White, that is), with periodic interruptions by Tegan & Sara and The Dresden Dolls.

1. Coldplay - "Politik"
Very touching and inspiring.
2. George Michael – "Freedom"
Because it’s so powerful and energizing, forget caffeine.
3. Donna Lewis – "I love you always forever"
We all have someone that we think of when we hear this song. Probably one of the most beautiful love songs...EVER. And she sounds a bit like Cindy Lauper :D
4. U2 – "Beautiful Day"
I know it’s cliché but it actually makes you feel the world can be a better place!
5. Gibonni – "Mirakul"
Although it’s (mostly) in Croatian, miracles CAN happen every time I listen to it. And his voice is so sexy...
6. R Kelly – "Ignition (Remix)"
Because it’s totally sexy and such a HAPPY song :D

Junior Boys, "Count Souveniers"
Cause it`s like a 7 a.m. hug.
Emiliana Torrini, "Today has been ok"
Sometimes OK is perfect. Nothing more, nothing less.
Hot Chip "Over&over"
The lyrics are so silly, I can`t help loving it.
Lauryn Hill "Doo Wop (That Thing)"
It is Lauryn, so I don`t need reasons.
Erlend Oye "The Talk"
The line "a pencil line is drawn upon my face" pretty much sums up the way I feel in the morning on weekdays.
Annie Lenox "Waiting in Vain"
I`ve heard Beloslava singing this song live at a club and it sounded soo beautiful.
Fat Jon or mouse radio take it from there and stay on throughout the day I guess....I have no idea when exactly did I get that "hip hop".

yeay :) "stay" is always on my play-it-loud-in-a-car-and-sing-along list, which isn't very manly, but what the heck.

let's filter out some songs i'm addicted to these days:
1. tegan and sarah - your number
Because I love the lyrics and feel a little something of my own past there. And the best bit is "he grabs me by the hand, drags me to the shore and says 'maybe you don't love me, but you'll grow to love me even more"

2. staind - it's been a while
Autumn is reminiscing time (did i spell it correctly) :)

3. pearl jam - black
gives me energy to move, very charging :) charge-recharge style..

4. nina simone - my baby just cares for me
the volume to the max, headphones and away we go around sofia streets. feels sunny, light, and makes me smile, because i notice those nice little details around.

5. orishas - tumbando y dando
brings me energy for walking and moves part of my body independently, makes me dance in an awkward fashion :)

6. tom jones and the cardigans - burning down the house & tom jones and the stereophonics - mama told me not to come
just love them! i think the lite-motive these days is "i need power", and when electricity won't do, this is what comes to the rescue

7. paul simon - 50 ways to leave your lover
peio's fault. a very serene song, soothes me and calms me down, makes me feel and secure about the next day. go figure it out?!

that's plenty, i guess.

I was debating whether posting on this topic (along with another "iffy" one from a few days ago) could be interpreted as admitting to having a feminine side, but it looks like at least one male has posted since I started writing. So, I'm secure now again and ready to high-five (no butt slaps) over how I've just "kicked some ass" here, in a literary sense. Since I'm not much of a morning person and don't walk to work, this is somewhat a fantasy list, made up of favorites I'd listen to anytime, as well as a few current interests. Here goes:

Ravel's "String Quartet in F" (2nd movement), followed by "So What" from Miles Davis, or "Take Five" by Dave Brubeck are good songs anytime, but especially as non-abrasive tunes for waking up to, or for slowly engaging the brain (pre-shower music, though it would also apply for walking already induced by non-musical mental stimuli, prior to obtaining a legally viable awakened state). A McCoy Tyner with Latin Jazz Orchestra version of "Afro Blue" would round out the jazz and classical set, rendering me reasonably awake, exuberant, happy, etc. Some pop stylings might enter the mix at that point. For instance, next it could be a change of pace to get the day going verbally, starting with possibly the most beautiful infidelity song ever, Nancy Wilson singing "Guess Who I Saw Today".

Then, verbal stuff mixed with instrumental, picking up the pace again, like some John Mayer off his recent album that leans more toward blues than sappy love songs - the guy actually plays guitar very well. After that, I'd bump into Jane and we'd kick up the blues influence yet another notch by listening to "Seven Nation Army" from the White Stripes. All remaining vestiges of sleep are gone after that. Having walked awhile now, with one last song to hear before work starts, I'd tone it down only slightly with a mid-1960s electric version of "Maggie's Farm" by Dylan, which engages me on every level. Bring on the day, because I'm ready...unless of course, the job is like the one described in that last song. (Until recently, I thought of Dylan as more poet than musician, but now would have to say he has it all. I could probably have made the whole list out on his songs. Same goes for Miles Davis, who offers great variety for any day you can get started without vocals. The jazz interest may seem antiquated, yet it's a fairly recent fascination, as well.)

Yes, Bob Dylan has it all! I'll have to include David Bowie in there too, though of a kinda different flavour :)

1. Dzihan&Kamien:Smile (in almost any remix version)
a graceful wake-up, i find, humbling and motivating

2. Beck: Brazilica
it eases into the shower, and defies any weather-related psychological challenge we people living in central germany may have come to nourish, without messing up the inbourne sarcasm

3.Pulp: Common people
a great track to have breakfast to, and reminisce

4.New Order: Guilt is a useless emotion
title reflects my major life aspiration, a morning reminder never hurts

5. Suede: Trash
(if i have to make a detour downtown before going to work the whole "Coming up" album makes it into the list)
gives a carefree twist to your gait, and a blurry nineties look to your eyes

6. United Future Organization: Foolish dream
the jazzy element provokes creativity, the japanese source - a smile

7. Kings of Convenience - I'd rather dance with you
for the association with one of the sweetest videos oput there

All the dancing comes to an end, when i cross the street in front of the institute and realize that instead of for dancing, i should have motivated myself for hours of solitary science and grand achievement of little consequence, so i play
8.Tears for fears: Everybody wants to rule the world
and go to my desk to check my email.

Lily Allen, "Alright Still" with an accent on two tracks:
LDN, because it's a nice city song and is appropriate for walkig 'round the city (besides I feel about Sofia the same way she feels about London);
and "Everything's Just Wonderful" - don't really know why, it just charges me with energy.

Also Fatboy Slim and "That old pair of jeans". Beyond explanation.

1. Am I Here Yet (Return to Sender) -- Billie Myers (very peppy, bouncy pop over old school funk... It has a neat sound.)

2. Blue Jeans -- Eddie from Ohio (This is a great song, about wanting to not be a grown up and get out of your work clothes and just chill in your blue jeans.)

3. Sea of No Cares -- Great Big Sea (about life and love, and very uplifting)

4. Escape (the Pina Colada Song) -- Rupert Holmes (Because I like pina coladas and getting caught in the rain.)

5. Got My Mind Set on You -- George Harrison (because cheesey 80s pop is always worth it)

6. My Baby Takes the Morning Train -- Sheena Easton (also horribly sexist, but very, very fun)

Links are to rapidshare files for downloading.

I miss the distance from home to the place where I am supposed to spend my day , right now it is about 3 minutes on the bike or 10 minutes of walking if I choose to extend it that long and /or am too lazy to fix my bike.. the distance was/is needed for me to listen to music and get inspired to actually go thru the day and not feel like shit mostly for not having the motivation to work :).. so I guess the songs lately are : the verve- come on, a spanish flamenco-jazz-rock band called el bicho, a future sound of london psychedelic music from the 60/70's mix, audioslave's out of exile album..'ve been trying to find some new stuff to listen to but due to various technical problems involving a cable that I only recently found out was called ATA , I can't download. .. безсънието е лоша работа Петя :), кво правя в този блог?? да си ходя в моя блок май в време..
