Put that thing down
I am running late for work this morning so I call a cab. I run out of the apartment. My hair is all messed up. My coat is unbuttoned. I am holding my bag in one hand, my keys and cell in the other. The click-clack of my heels wakes up the entire neighborhood. Ok, I lied about that last part. I don't go to work THAT early.
I jump into the car, spit out where I want to go and as soon as I've cought my breath I start doing my make-up. I take the little compact mirror out of my bag, open my lipgloss and begin applying. Three seconds into the procedure, my driver says:
Driver: Please put this down.
Me: ?!?!???!??!?!??!?!?!
Driver: Put the lipstick back in your bag. You are not doing your make-up in my car.
For the rest of the day I keep wondering WHAT THE FUCKIN' FUCK WAS THAT ABOUT?!?!?!?!?!??!?!?!

Maybe he was just trying to look out for you. You don't want to be that person who shows up to work with lipstick on her teeth.
He probably made the comment being worried, cause most people believe it is dangerous to put your make up in a car. Just imagine what would happen if he puts on the brake suddenly. :)
Let me venture a wild guess here...
By starting to put on your make-up in his car you totally desecrated his shrine.
That's probably his own vehicle and he is one of the many disillusioned by the "prehod" Bulgarians, who have resorted to driving a cab for a living.
The act of overtly ignoring his presence by being completely consumed by the contents of your handbag probably hurt his pride.
In his mind you didn't appreciate enough the service he was providing for you. I might surmise he even refused to be tipped at the end of the voyage.
One day all the cabbies will be robots with GPS navigation just like in "Total Recall". :)
Oh, maybe he just appreciates natural women beauty? Like... really, really *natural* beauty?
Verily I say thus unto thee, it's part of the grand conspiracy to keep women down and humiliated on a daily basis.
Offtopic, но близо до темата: скачам в едно такси, паркирало на улицата, казвам "улица Юрий Венелин" и започвам да ровя в чантата си за телефона - трябва да съобщя, че закъснявам. Шофьорът не пали колата. Поглеждам го въпросително, а той ме пита къде се намира въпросната улица.Казвам му, че не знам, той е бакшишът в крайна сметка. Намира улицата на картата, пали колата и започва да ми се кара: "Е браво, много хубаво! Скачаш в колата и казваш някаква улица - аз да не съм бюро справки, на к'во прилича това!!!" И не спира да намила, докато не стигнем.

аз ще изненадам всички, но имам все положителни спомени от таксита. преди година, когато работното ми време се разтягаше след 1 сутринта, винаги ползвах една и съща фирма. така в един момент ме бяха запомнили и се оказа, че когато дойде време диспечарките им напомнят с нещо като : хайде някой да отиде да прибере онова чернокосото момиченце от Борово.
и изобщо мило е да имаш гилдия от таксиметрови шофьори, които се грижат за теб. особено в най-невъзможното време по празниците.
Аз пък харесвам да видя жени да се гримират в автомобил. Мисля, че е много приятно и мило да се види жена спряла на червено на светофара, и макар да има само 20-30 секунди - навежда огледалото за обратно виждане, изважда си кутийката, и добавя малко естетика...
В един предимно сив, студен и груб свят по софийските улици рано сутрин.
Трябва да се цени красивото, още повече, че е толкова рядко срещано!
(А иначе риск от гримиране в такси има - особено ако се ползва спирала, а таксито се движи рязко, друсне те из някоя дупка и др. под. Подобен е и риска от червило, но не с толкова опасни последици...)

And then I will have to explain the stain to MY WIFE. And I know how THAT would go. And plus, who does she think she is?! Ignoring me like that?! This is MY car. People do as I say! It's not like I am mean or bossy or anything. I really just don't want her to get hurt. And what if she got lipstick on her TEETH. Dude!!! And what if she pulls out that scary mascara thing?!!!! He was totally worried about you getting any makeup in his seats, not what you would call an easy going fella.. that's it.
Word about you has gone around in the cab community, and he became jealous thinking you were getting dolled up to go have a "princess" sandwich with some other cabbie, since he felt it obvious to anyone that the driver of your dreams was sitting right in front of you.
