Beauty and success
According to Tim Harford, author of the piece, the most common explanations of why pretty people do better at work are either that bosses seem to like to surround themselves with beautiful people or that we all seem to confuse beauty for other useful qualities (like honesty, intelligence and so forth). The article suggests that, perhaps, beautiful people ARE better at their jobs for reasons as simple as having been treated with more attention by their teachers when they were students.
I’m directing attention to the article not because it’s particularly well written or shockingly ground-breaking in its conclusions, but simply because I find the topic quite interesting. Also, the author made a sneaky reference to Kant and I simply couldn’t help myself.

Huh? Kant was not an attractive man.
(reads article) Ah, now I see. OK, maybe he is kinda cute, in an eighteenth-century Prussian, powdered-wig way.
well...wasn't wearing a powdered wig a sign of professional success back in eighteen-century Prussia?
yes, but I'm not sure that having beady little eyes or being swaddled nightly by your man-servant was ;)
swaddled by his servant?! really? why? did he also use to wear one of those weird night-gowns with no room for your legs to come out? the kind that little kids wear?
hahahaha...footies?!
oh man, i have the funniest image in my head right now :D
footies is a funny word! i'm sure all the readers are very happy we brought this up.
do you realize that this might well be the first time somebody used Kant and footies in the same conversation?
I bought Sally a set of footie pajamas. She possibly is the cutest thing ever when she wears them.
Awesome! Do I need to ASK for pictures? :)))))
I just laughed so hard I woke up my husband...
your husband, is he wearing footies?
I think he was wearing regular pj bottoms. BUT!!! He never wears wifebeaters which is how I used to judge if a man is "real" or not when I was five. My grandfather wore wifebeaters and since he was the best man in my life at that time, I measured everyone up against him. :)
Then like 20 years later I saw a "A Streetcar Named Desire" and finally figured out why this piece of clothing is called "wifebeater"...
