Anne Lamott is one of my favorite writers of all time. She is wise and funny and neurotic. Just my kind of writer. In her book on parenting, Operating Instructions, she quotes her son Sam (age 7) saying:
I think I already understand about life: pretty good, some problems.
Which, strangely enough, is exactly how I feel about it. What's been life like for you these days? You've been awfully quiet and I miss you.
My sister gave me that book when my wife and I were complaining about our first child, when he was about nine months old. "Hey, at least you aren't trying to do it alone," she told us, and we both read "Operating Instructions" straight through. It's a great book, and Sam's quote is very apt. Especially for this so-called spring we're supposed to be having.
Oh! I am so glad you liked it too! I think it's a fantastic read on parenting but also, in more general terms, about dealing with whatever hardship life presents you.
In all her writing she urges people to stop trying to be perfect...which is such good advice...
I have been making a conscious effort to not let "things" in life become problems. It is actually not that hard to dismiss something that bothers you (ex.: annoying co-workers--either be the active side to make things better or don't let them get to you). As long as we are not talking about serious problems like death and illnesses that money cannot fix, most other problems arise from people's desire to have things and lack of patience or effort put forth into getting what they want. Everybody would like to live in an ideal world. I overcome my frustration with reality by telling myself I am not entitled to anything but I can work towards achieving what I want. And the reward is in the process.. Also yoga helps ;)
My name is Petya and this place has been my true love since January of 2002 when I thought that I wanted to illustrate children's books for a living. I used to draw little girls with BIG heads. Hence the name of the site.
Since its very inception, the website has been hosted by, Dan of waferbaby.com. Dan is single-handedly responsible for my addiction to all things blog. It all started when he made the seemingly innocent suggestion that if I want to have a website, I might want to learn a little bit of html. And for that, I will love him forever.
After a seven-year whirlwind of adventures in the United States, I moved back to Bulgaria where I now live with my wonderful husband. If you ever see a spastic Bulgarian girl and a skinny American boy taking jumping pictures of each other you should know it's probably the two of us and should definitely come by and say hi.
Thank you for taking interest in my life. And please say hi when you get a chance! That would totally make my day!

As soon as I stopped trying to be perfect, I actually started enjoying the things I am doing and the people I am working with.

I think I understand about life: pretty good, lots of grading, and male friends who move to Bulgaria cease to exist.
